Baby Chicks

The younger girls have been wanting to have chickens for such a long time. Two years ago dad told Luanna that she could get some chickens if she would get rid of her sheep before winter. Soooo, she sold her sheep and waited till spring to get the chickens. Of course, when spring finally came we didn't have time or a place to get them. It kept getting put off. So anyway, this spring we looked for some. Hoping to get some full grown laying hens. Unfortunately we could find anybody willing to sell the ones they already raised, so we had to order chicks. Of course, the little ones are so much cuter that big ones :)

We ordered 30 of them. Four different varieties. One kind is an 'Easter egg' kind that lays different unique colored eggs (pink, blue, brown, green, etc.) It will be interesting to see how them colored ones look! Now if we can just keep them alive long enough to get a few eggs! I'm sure Slippers will love getting her paws on them!!

Ahh we just got chicks a few weeks ago... I *choke* have not even seen them yet! I was making breakfast when they arrived and I just noticed the other day that I never did make it down to the pen to see them. :-P

Cute now, dinner later? My brother and sister raise chickens every year, and they really are cute...until they get bigger...then they get tasty! ;-)

Thank you for taking the time to post pictures! And congratulations to Luanna!
